Pressure Treated Pine โ Our Preferred Framing Material
For tiki hut builds in Arcadia and throughout DeSoto County, we prefer pressure treated pine with 3ร4 timbers for the structural frame. Pressure treated pine handles Florida's humidity, rain, and UV exposure exceptionally well, resists rot and insects, and is significantly more cost-effective than cypress without sacrificing structural integrity. It's what we recommend to the vast majority of our clients.
Cypress โ Available on Request
Cypress is a beautiful, naturally rot-resistant wood that some Arcadia clients prefer for its appearance and natural properties. We can source and work with cypress on request. Be aware that cypress is more expensive than pine and the quality of available cypress has declined in recent years as old-growth supplies have dwindled. We'll give you an honest assessment of current cypress quality before you commit.
Sabal Palm Thatch Roofing
Authentic sabal palm thatch is the standard roofing material for all our Arcadia tiki hut builds. It's the real Florida look โ nothing replicates it. Properly installed sabal palm thatch lasts 3โ5 years in DeSoto County's climate before re-thatching is needed.
Synthetic Thatch โ The Low-Maintenance Alternative
If you want the look of natural thatch without the maintenance cycle, synthetic thatch is an excellent option for Arcadia properties. UV-rated synthetic panels last 10โ15 years, require no maintenance, and are nearly indistinguishable from natural thatch at a normal viewing distance.
